Before starting homeschooling, you need to register with the Office of Education Regulation (OER). You can download a registration form from the OER website. You will need your child’s birth certificate and proof of residency in Tasmania, which can be a driver’s license. If your child has never attended school, you do not need to provide proof of attendance. If you have received court orders, these must be included in your registration form. In addition, you will need to include a plan for recording learning activities and achievement and progress.

Homeschooling is a legal alternative to enrolment at a school

Homeschooling is an option for people who do not want to enroll their children in a school. In Tasmania, this option is legal. The registration of homeschooling in the state has increased by more than nine per cent from the end of 2017 to the end of 2020.
